"This is the gospel of Rolfing:
When the body gets working appropriately,
the force of gravity can flow through.
Then, spontaneously, the body heals itself."
- Dr. Ida P. Rolf
SI is a process of changeThe traditional Structural Integration process consists of a series of 10 sessions. Each session has unique goals and outcomes, and is tailored to your individual body to achieve optimal results.
From the very first session, you should begin to feel the benefits of the work. Many people report an emerging sense of lightness, ease of movement and increased coordination. The reestablishment of your body's natural postural controls continues as the series progresses. The first seven sessions of the 10 series systematically address strain and dysfunction in specific areas of the body, working from the external ‘sleeve’ to the deeper ‘core’. As the potential in your body increases, the later sessions organize and realign the body as a whole. With new awareness and possibilities of movement, this change is an ongoing process. Through improving body-wide relationships, many people experience continuing improvements long after the work has finished, both in body and mind. After the 10 Series The 10 series is complete and hugely beneficial on its own; many clients never feel the need for another session. However, after a period of integrating this work, many people choose to come in for periodic 'tune-ups'; this is particularly common among athletes, heavy computer users and people managing on-going conditions. Others come in for help with issues resulting from injuries or illness, or for further advanced work. |

The 10 Series Overview
Session 1: Free the Breath
Freeing restrictions in the ribcage, diaphragm shoulders, arms and hips begins to free the shoulder and pelvic girdles. This enhances breathing and provides support for upcoming changes. Session 2: Find the Feet Balancing the foot and muscles of the lower leg allows a stable foundation. Support from the ground begins to connect upward to the spine, and flows throughout the whole body. Session 3: Lengthen the Sides Differentiating front and back, the body begins to have more depth. The shoulder and pelvic girdles find greater freedom of movement, and the relationship between upper and lower body is improved under the influence of gravity. Session 4: Establish the Midline
Releasing restrictions in the inner legs from feet to pelvis creates support for the body's core. Fundamental to further progress, this work enhances functioning of the ankles, knees, hips, pelvis and spine. Session 5: Deepen Connection to the Core Freeing tensions in superficial abdomen, ribs, neck and arms to allow access to the deeper structures of the torso. Improving coordination around the lumbar spine and pelvis at this deeper level promotes length and lift through the center of the body. Session 6: Support from Behind Addressing fixations in the back of the legs, pelvis and spine leads to greater support, span and movement potential for the whole body. Session 7: The Lift from Above Freeing and balancing the head and neck atop a flexible and supportive spine. By enhancing the function of our main orienting systems the whole body can enjoy improved balance, perception, and coordination. Sessions 8 & 9: Integrate the upper/
lower body According to individual needs, each session focuses on either the upper or lower body to coordinate previously established changes. Finding further integration between shoulder or pelvic girdle and the core encourages smooth movement and natural coordination. Session 10: A Sense of Order and Balance This is an opportunity to consolidate the structural changes that have been possible so far. Smoothing the fascial connections over multiple joints so that the body can work as a fluid whole. Once completed, the wisdom of the Ten Series will suffuse and support the body with enhanced health for years to come. |
